This Week’s Small Pleasures #1

One of the most important things travelling has taught me is to be grateful for the life I have. I recently came across a blog event, which helps me do just that.  Weekly Small Pleasures, hosted by Mani from A New Life Wandering, is a perfect way to remember all the brilliant things in life every week. It’s all about those little things that (in Mani’s lovely words) ‘made you smile, made you laugh, made you do a happy dance, made your heart silently smile, or even made you cry for joy.’

When I returned from my year long round the world adventure, I struggled to fit back into life back in the UK. I missed the every day adventure and experiences of new things. I’m simply not very good at routine.

However, excellent things happen every day and I’m joining this blog event to appreciate those things and remember that life is always an adventure, even if it doesn’t always involve a backpack and suncream!

So, here are my…

Small Pleasures

for this week:

  1. Getting inspired at the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition

I can’t stop harping on about how lucky we are with our museums in London. They are accessible and affordable and frankly stunning. I love the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition – it inspires me to improve my own photography, allows me to look at incredible nature and animals that I’ve never seen and is like going on a tour around the world in my mind.

2. Guest Blogging

I recently guest blogged for The Aussie Flashpacker, and I’ve really enjoyed working with them. It gave me an enormous smile to hear they enjoyed my photos and felt inspired to go to some of the places I’ve been. You can read about my top South American Wildlife Experiences here.

3. Stories at Shakespeare’s globe

Theatre and storytelling is a real passion of mine. It’s like visiting new worlds in my imagination. I was lucky enough to see the last show of Measure for Measure at the Globe Theatre in London, and it really made me laugh.

4. Receiving my visa for Vietnam!!

They’ve let me in! Beyond excited about my trip in January and planning it makes me so happy.

5. Hearing from an old friend

Receiving an email from a friend I made in El Salvador that I’ve not heard from for a while really made me smile. He’s living in Rio now too – so I feel another trip coming on!!

Thanks to Mani for starting this event! You can see her latest Weekly Small Pleasure’s here

  1. Happy to have you on board! I really enjoyed your intro and your first post! That photo Exhibition sounds amazing and yes, you are so lucky to have so many amazing and free museums! And always exciting to look forward to a trip. I have read that even if you don’t actually go, planning trips makes people happy. I believe you have written a little about that. I will check out your guest post as well. Have a happy new week!
