Weekly Small Pleasures is a blog event hosted by Mani from A New Life Wandering. It’s a way to remember and take note of all the brilliant things in life every week. It’s all about those little things that (in Mani’s lovely words) ‘made you smile, made you laugh, made you do a happy dance, made your heart silently smile, or even made you cry for joy.’
These are some of the excellent things that have happened this week…
Kit Kats from Japan
Twice in one year, I have been given kitkats from Japan! Two of my good friends just got engaged in Japan, which makes me smile and I was even happier to receive their gift of a bag of crazy flavoured kitkats. I’m looking forward to trying the weirdness of the wasabi one!
Seeing the stars
In the UK, it is raining a lot at the moment. This type of weather generally makes me feel a little blue, but on Tuesday night, as I was walking home I noticed that thick grey clouds had cleared and the stars were back! A clear, starry sky always makes me feel awestruck and this filled me with joy.
Cold weather clothes
If I can’t be on a hot beach, I want it to be really cold. Yesterday it was actually cold. Like I could wear my gloves and hat and wrap myself in a blanket to walk to work kind of cold. Boots and hats and scarves make me happy.
Public Service Broadcasting
When living in El Salvador, I heard live music all the time – this year, I realised I have hardly seen/ heard any. My friends and I saw Public Service Broadcasting live and it was really one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to. Dancing spacemen, and more musicians onstage than I’ve seen in a long time. This was a happy making factory of an evening.
Good Veggie Food
I visited a fantastic vegetarian cafe in London that I’ve never been to before and nothing gives me more pleasure than good veggie food. The Veg Bar in Brixton serves up a real mix that even non-vegetarians would love. I had the seitan wings with hot sauce and mac and cheese as a delicious, warming, comfort food treat for the winter weather. Yum.
Sounds like Mani has had a great week too in Mexico!
What’s been making you happy recently?
